Why do people always make such a big deal about putting weight on during the holidays? Those of us who "eat right" don't seem to have the problem. How come? At CityWide, we follow some of the below guidelines during the holiday season to keep the extra pounds off:
- Pace yourself at holiday parties by alternating your wine or martini with sparkling water and lime or a shot of cranberry juice IN A WINE OR MARTINI GLASS. You'll stay hydrated, consume less alcohol and calories and feel much better the next morning.
- Don't arrive at a cocktail party hungry. Eat BEFORE you go. You'll be less tempted to fill up on snacks and hor d'ourves that are loaded with calories and often nutritionally empty.
- Limit dessert to three bites. The sweet sensation you experience with the first bite diminishes, but the calories will not if you eat all of it.
- Don't throw in the holiday towel. If you eat and drink too much one night, make amends with yourself by being aware and having less the next time.
- Don't miss your workouts during the holidays. People who continue to exercise are less likely to over-indulge.
Most people gain their 2-5 pounds for the entire year between Thanksgiving and New Years; don't let this be you! Be aware of how quickly calories can add up and follow these 5 tips to avoid holiday weight gain.
