Cardio advocates always believe “some is good; more is better”. “If I had more time I’d do more cardio”. The great irony of this is that these people want to look great. The problem is that cardio is catabolic; meaning it destroys muscle. Why oh why would someone want to destroy rather than build and preserve their muscle??
Conversely we, at Citywide, believe that exercise should be the opposite of what these people advocate. We believe that exercise must me brief, intense, infrequent, and safe. No form of cardio adheres to these principals.
Below is a picture of a marathoner (the ultimate extension of lots of cardio) and a sprinter (an extension of the high intensity concept). We certainly would call both of these people in great shape. The question is which appearance would you prefer?
