With the gigantic earthquake in Japan, the Richter Scale is in the news. This is how the magnitude of an earthquake is measured. The one in Japan came in at 9.1.
The Richter Scale uses a logarithmic approach. This means that one full point higher isn't linear in it's increase. It's 10 times. For example, an earthquake with a magnitude 6 on the scale is 10 times more powerful than a magnitude of 5.
So how does this compare to kind the of exercise we advocate?
TO INCREASE THE POSITIVE RESULTS FROM OUR WORKOUT INCREASE THE INTENSITY AT THE END. Ironically, just when the most inroading can occur, the average workout person quits. Huge benefits are derived from incremental increases of effort at the END. Move the weight another quarter of an inch. Fight the resistance for another few seconds. Leave nothing behind.
You don't have to work out more often. You don't have to do more sets. However, when you do exercise; psyche yourself up and hit it as hard as is humanely possible. The smallest increase of effort will yield exponential results.
You might hate doing it, but you'll love the impact on your body.
